    Sound Effects Not Working?

    Hi all,

just wanted to see if other people are having a similar issue- despite the sound being saved onto a stereo (or similar widget) I'm often getting 'specified track [track name] not found' in response to interactions that trigger sound effects. I've double checked in the widgets and the sounds are present, and they're also present upon opening the 'configure' tab on the items too, so I'm unsure as to why I'm getting the 'specified track [track name] not found' response? When I first set up the interaction, it worked, but upon leaving and coming back to the space the next day, I started getting the current response. Is this a known issue? Is there any hints or tips anyone has to solve this? Thanks in advance for any help

    Hi Jamie,

I’ve done a bit of testing on this and it looks like the issue may be tied to how track names are being recognized by the “Play specific track” interaction.

In some cases, the system doesn’t seem to reliably match tracks when the format includes both artist and title (e.g., “Artist Name - Title”), especially if the artist name isn’t part of the actual stored track title. For example:
    • Using “Twin Diplomacy - BPM” did not work, likely because “BPM” is the actual track title and “Twin Diplomacy” isn’t included in the stored name.
    • Using “Jon Hopkins - Insides” worked, as both artist and title appear to match the stored track name.
    • Using “BPM” alone also worked consistently.

Based on this, a good workaround is to use the exact track title as it appears in the widget, rather than including the artist name unless it’s explicitly part of the title.

It may also be worth reselecting the track to ensure it’s properly linked.

Hope this helps clarify things a bit!

I’ve noticed this with my stereos and I always put the exact title of the track. Each time it has happened, it is because simply, the button on the widget hasn’t loaded yet. The track is still on the play list and hasn’t been removed or changed by Soundcloud for copyright.

So, things I have tried is moving the stereo closer to the entry point if I can. I’ve also tried a double start on sound effects that are repetitive anyway to try to speed up loading. It’s really luck to whether it loads fast enough to play or not. I’ve had it load completely fine and be working and then on next test of the mission, I get the error again.

Thanks for the reply, Aribella! I did think that it could be related to the widget fully loading or not but wasn't sure; thanks for the tip about placing the widgets close to entry points, I'll give that one a try too! Sucks that it's a luck-of-the-draw situation though, especially if you want to have a larger mission space that may take way longer to load. Ah well, it's beyond our control, I guess!

It’s SoundCloud with the loading errors that he is asking about. YouTube has a totally different issue on whether it will allow you to save a video or not. And YouTube, at least here, isn’t configured to work with interactions yet for mission programming. The only thing YouTube can manage to do is play background music, sound effects, not so much.
