Hear ye, hear ye! To celebrate the recent release of the Royal Legacy and Golden Throne packages, we're unveiling an official SmallVerse mission making contest fit for kings and queens!

Create a mission in the theme of 'Life of Royalty' and you could win one of the three regal prizes listed below. Will you lead us through the grand halls owned by a medieval queen, explore the trials of being a prince in a fantasy world, or perhaps reveal the struggles of being a modern-day monarch? Straighten your crown, open your scroll and lead us into the 'Life of Royalty' as you imagine it.

    How to Enter
To enter your mission into the contest, post in this thread with the following template:

        4. Your mission must take no longer than 10 minutes to complete.

Just some feedback here - I think this time limit is too restrictive to a mission creator to what type of missions they can create, especially those of us that like to create stories, which can vary to how long they can take depending if the player reads or not and at what pace (although most zip through and don't bother reading at all). You guys want creativity and want missions to "wow" you. (supposedly) This idea to create a mission in 10 minutes or less just caters to those whose primary focus is to get their tokens/xp and run and doesn't really express interest in promoting quality missions that can stand out above the rest. The original game allowed 30 minutes maximum for their contest winners, same as the expectations to get approved. I can understand trying to find a mission that can cater to players expectations to not take too much time; however, I find that a 15-minute time allowance is more acceptable. This wouldn't limit a mission maker so much and would allow enough time for the mission player to read or even dawdle around a bit on tasks, or if a task took them a bit longer to do. That in itself or any entry where they are 1-2 minutes over instantly eliminates them from the competition. And then there are those that like to sabotage a competitor's entry ... it happens. Not exactly fair. So, what exactly determines the maximum of 10 minutes to complete - the average play time by the players or that of the judges. And do the judges take their time, or do they move through quickly in order to test the next entry? Just something that might come across our minds, or mine anyway.

The prize winnings are nice and can compensate for the expenses to create one, reasonably, except for a few if they go all out.
I do hope some improvisions can be made in the next contest, if there ever is one, to allow for slightly longer play times. I would also like to see SV follow in SW's footsteps to standards and game ethics. I see a lot more of personal preferences vs trying to stay within the integrity of the original game, overall, not just missions. In the meantime, I more than likely won't bother entering. I won't sacrifice the quality of my missions to rush through making them for the sole purpose of gaining xp. I create them for my own enjoyment and by the slight chance the mission player might enjoy playing them. The rest of it is just a bonus. But perhaps I am just a minority of us that think this way...

Good luck to those that enter!!!

          Hi Aribella,

Thank you for taking the time to provide feedback - I understand your concerns and your feedback is appreciated.

As this is our first official mission contest, the 10 minute time limit was chosen to ensure a balance between the contest participants having sufficient time to create a quality mission, while also ensuring that judging can remain both thorough and fair if there are a significant number of entries. The judges will not be relying on the 'average play time' to determine the length of the mission. Instead, the play time will be verified independently by the Events Team as part of our contest rule checks, which are conducted prior to all entries being passed on to the judging panel. That way, the judges can take their time to complete the mission judging process. I hope this provides some clarity.

We will be sure to keep your feedback in mind when planning mission contests in the future, particularly whether a 15 minute+ time allowance would be more appropriate.

if you do the whole mission while reading the story it DOES take longer than 10 minutes, but the mission itself can be done in under 10 minutes, it can be done in even 5. If this entry gets disqualified because of that, it's okay. I still had a lot of fun writing and designing this mission. Thanks!

We have received a lot of feedback regarding the time limit rule which was applied to this contest. We understand the concerns and can appreciate that, in hindsight, this was overly-restrictive and may have created unnecessary confusion. Apologies to those who decided not to enter this competition as a result of the time limit - for future mission contests, we will ensure that communication around this is much clearer and that a more appropriate time limit is chosen.
