A Reminder of Internet Safety Guidelines

Here are some common sense guidelines that you should follow when using SmallVerse:
    • Avatars aren’t always who they say they are. SmallVerse avatars allow you to be yourself without giving away any personal information. While it’s fun to make friends with new SmallVerse avatars from all over the world, avoid providing any information that could be used to personally identify you. This includes your Flickr and YouTube widgets. Perhaps use a Flickr account just for the photos you want to share on SmallVerse.
    • Be safe in world. If someone in a space says something that you find offensive, abusive or inappropriate, click the report abuse button and leave the space. SmallVerse takes abuse reports very seriously and will promptly take action. To lodge an abuse report, please follow the steps below:
      1. Click on the users Avatar
      2. Click on Report Abuse
      3. Pick a reason and fill in the form with what they are saying or doing to offend you. Please include as much information as possible.
    • If the person continues the abusive behaviour towards you, block them. To block a user, please follow the steps below:
      1. Click on the users Avatar
      2. Click Block User.
      3. If they are no longer in the space or you have left you need to search for the avatar.
      4. Click on the avatar you wish to block in the search results.
      5. In the details window click Block this avatar.
    • Be safe with your space. A good way to remain safe online is to keep all personally identifying information out of your space (e.g., be careful what photos you post in your flickr widget). Don’t give away personal information of any kind. If you come across another user’s homepage that you find offensive, report it immediately using the contact us page. Please include name of the avatar that owns the space, the name of the space and why you are reporting it.
    • In-person meetings can be dangerous. SmallVerse does not recommend you ever physically meet someone you get to know online. If you choose to meet an online friend in the real world, there are some very important rules you should stick to.
      1. Meet only people you feel you know well, have known for a long time, and only with your parents’ knowledge and permission.
      2. Meet in a public place, such as a mall.
      3. Go with a parent or 18+ sibling (even if you are an adult yourself)
      4. Make sure the person you’re meeting is not alone, but coming with a parent/other adult.
    • Always follow your family’s rules for the Internet. They’re there to make sure you have fun and stay safe online.
    • Be honest about your age. If you are under 13 and pretend to be older, SmallVerse will delete your account.
    • No SmallWorlds staff member will ever ask for your password or email or other personal details. Don’t fall for any scam that asks for your SmallWorlds password or your personal email address even if it comes to you from someone you believe to be an SmallWorlds staff member. SmallWorlds staff will never contact you to ask for your personal details.
If you have any further questions, please contact support@smallverse.app.
