The best advice any artist will share is that it takes time, patience and practice...practice...practice.
The more you paint, the easier it will become and the more you learn about the tools on the board. Do not expect to be and expert artist with your first months ... all of the well-known artists in game have been painting since 2008-2009 when SW was released.
My suggestion is to take a blank board and try every brush tip ... different sizes and different opacity of the colors and just scribble / practice - see what effects you get when you use them. Every artist has their favorite brush tips to do different things. It's not about how long it takes you to make a painting... take your time and enjoy the journey.
